A/Professor Dennis Wong graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 2003. He completed his physician, cardiology and all aspects of cardiac imaging (echocardiography, cardiac MRI and cardiac CT) at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He then completed a 2 year interventional fellowship at MonashHeart acquiring skills in coronary stenting, intravascular imaging and fractional flow reserve as well as structural intervention.
Dennis is a consultant interventional, cardiac MRI and CT cardiologist at Monash Medical Centre. Besides Monash Medical Centre, he has admitting rights to Jessie McPherson, The Valley and Epworth private hospitals. Dennis sees himself firstly as a general physician and secondly as a cardiologist. He has interest in all aspects of Cardiology (coronary artery disease, heart failure, structural heart disease & hypertension) and has been serving regional Australia in Mildura as a visiting general physician and cardiologist since 2010.
Dennis has completed a PhD in cardiac MRI and MD in the area of cardiac CT. His PhD thesis was awarded the Dean’s commendation for thesis excellence by the University of Adelaide. He has published more than 70 original manuscripts in leading international journals such as Lancet and Journal of American College of Cardiology. He is a reviewer and Editorial Board member for international peer reviewed journals. Besides winning 12 Young Investigator awards, he won the Ralph Reader prize in 2013 which is the highest accolade for emerging Cardiology researchers in Australia and New Zealand. He has been the recipient of prestigious research scholarships including NHMRC postgraduate scholarship and Early Career Fellowship as well as National Heart Foundation Postgraduate Scholarship and Post-Doctoral Fellowship. He is an international expert in the field of cardiac CT and has successfully supervised PhD candidates in the area of cardiac CT and plaque assessment. He holds an associate professor appointment through Monash University where he actively researches and lectures.
Dennis converses in fluent English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hakka and Malay languages. Dennis is married with 3 children. He enjoys sports such as tennis, badminton and soccer. He is a long suffering Liverpool FC fan.
